In order to use BioDesk, you must follow through with the process of starting a BioDesk session.
To start using BioDesk You must launch a session using the web based Session Manager . - The Session Manager allows you to start new sessions, display current session address, and change your session settings (Password, email & phone #)
Logon The first page of the Session Manager asks for your Login and Password: This is the login and password that was sent to you when you requested the account (though you may have changed the password with 'passwd'). Settings The first time you use BioDesk you will automatically be taken to the settings page: (To change your settings you can follow the "To modify your BioDesk settings, click here." link) Enter your Login and Password then create a password for your sessions. We also need your current email address and phone number; we may need to contact you if any system problems arise. Session Launch Once your settings are confirmed, the session launch page appears: There are essentially three parts to this page: - BioDesk Session address.
This is the address for your session. You will need to give this information to the BioDesk viewer. - System Message.
Also referred to as "Message Of The Day". This area will inform you if the system has been experiencing problems or is scheduled for shutdown (maintenance/repairs). - BioDesk AutoLaunch
With some minor tweaking, you can setup your browser to automatically launch the BioDesk viewer with your current session address. At this time we only have this service for PCs, we hope to offer this to Mac users eventually. From here you can also connect to your session using your Java enabled browser by clicking on the "Launch BioDesk Web Client" link. Standalone Viewer Once you have a BioDesk session started you can launch the BioDesk Viewer. The viewer will prompt you for a VNC server address: Enter the address displayed by the BioDesk Session Manager, and click 'OK' to connect to your BioDesk session. BioDesk Web Client The BioDesk Web Client requires a standard browser with Java & JavaScript enabled. In general you will experience reduced performance using this option, but it can be a convenient method at times. |
