BCF User Accounts
Use this page to request various computer account actions; new accounts, remove idle accounts. Please review the BCF Computer Usage Policy before requesting an account.

Access

We currently offer 4 types of accounts and can assist with applications run on the campus supercomputer:

  1. BioDesk (UNIX/GCG) - for both DNA and protein sequencing analysis and searching. This account is also used for access to MySQL databases for custom program development. (If you need to use MySQL please specify this in the box labeled

    'Current Research/Additional Info' on the account application form).

  2. SGI Graphics - for molecular modeling (Insight II 2000)
  3. Data Processing & Analysis - PCs for imaging, publishing, sequence analysis
  4. Microarray Analysis - Dual screen PC with Microarray analysis software (R/Bioconductor, Affymetrix, etc.)
  5. U of A High Performance Computing

 

BCF requires users to have passwords that meet or exceed the requirements specified by the campus Center for Computing and Information Technology (CCIT).

Guidelines on how to construct a "safe" password can be found on the campus Information Security and Privacy website.

A handy tool for generating passwords can be found here (use the "Word-like" option for easier to remember passwords).
