Downloading your Sequences from the GATC Sequencing Facility to Your Account | Print |
Users of the campus Sequencing Facility may choose to have their sequences sent directly to their BioDesk account folders. This How-To assumes that you already have a BioDesk account and are familiar with BioDesk. The first step in retrieving your sequences is to ask yourself where you want them to go; Good file organization is crucial to efficient control of a large project. Use of subfolders to separate your files into related groups can shorten search times and make transfer of ownership much easier. To start, one should have a folder for the raw Chromatogram files downloaded from the Sequencing Facility, and at least one other for those sequences that have been 'cleaned', either by use of FAKtory or GCG/SeqLab.

So, we will begin by creating a destination folder:

  1. Connect to your BioDesk session.
  2. Click on the desktop and select FileManager from the menu.
  3. Click on the 'NEW' button and enter a name for your new folder.

  4. Open your Web browser and go the the Sequencing Facility's
Pickup Samples & Track Progress page.

  5. Login and go to your Sample Pickup page.
  6. Select the .CRO entries for each of sequences you wish to transfer to your account.
  7. Scroll down to the bottom of the Sample Pickup page.
  8. Select which server your account is on and enter your login, password and destination directory (the one you created in step 3).

  9. Click on the 'Send file(s)' button.
  10. A file transfer confirmation page will appear if successful
Common errors include bad password, or invalid destination directory. A spelling check solves most problems.

That's it! You're now free to import your files into GCG/SeqLab or to process them with FAKtory.
