Tech Docs is a portal between the staff at BCF to the University and the outside world. We take pride in our projects and websites and this section aims to share some of out projects and solutions with the university and the general public.

Feel free to browse or search through our staff and read about them and the work they have been doing to enable digital discoveries here at the Biotechnology Computing Facility.

  • Dave Thompson  ( 1 items )
I'm an Applications Systems Analyst with a background in both molecular biology and computer programing. I have been working with the BCF since Nov. 2006. I design, develop, and manage robust LIMS (laboratory information systems) to organize data generated by GATC 's high-throughput, automated workflows. Our systems pair reliable and scalable back-end databases with easy to use web interfaces for our end users. BCF LIMS help ensure the quality and efficiency of laboratory workflows by supporting the following areas:
    • sample and inventory management
    • assay results data archival, retrieval, quality control, and analysis
    • automated reaction setup
    • automated sample cherry picking
    • billing

  • Kumaran Balachandran  ( 1 items )

Kumaran is a Computer Science Student at the University of Arizona and has been working with the BCF since summer 2007.

  • Douglas Hall  ( 3 items )

I am an Electrical Engineering student at the university and have been working with the BCF since early 2007. My specialties include but are not limited to: programming, web development and automation.

When I first arrived here I had a decent general knowledge of most everything computer related, since starting in February of 2007 I have gained quite a lot more knowledge that has filled in gaps and details of things I had learned on my own before working here.

  • Susan Miller  ( 1 items )

I'm the Manager of Scientific Data Analysis for the ARL Biotechnology Computing Facility. I conduct Computing Workshops for Life Scientists, develop code for collaborators, and assist with High-Throughput Computing tasks and microarray data analysis. With Nirav Merchant, I have co-authored a chapter on Bioinformatics Programming in David Mount's Bioinformatics text book.
